Shoes, Sex…and Cell Phones

It was a television phenomenon that rivaled Star Trek. It set fashion trends and changed how women talked about men and relationships. Sex and the City, the American television series turned international hit, followed the fictional Carrie Bradshaw as she navigated New York City and its many men, along with her best friends Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte. Based on the column and best-selling novel by author Candace Bushnell, fans worldwide were engrossed with Carrie’s story.
Carrie’s main love affair was with the mysterious Mr. Big. For six long seasons, we never knew his real name. We watched him break Carrie’s heart, we watched him cheat on his wife with her, and we watched as he pleaded with her to give him a second chance in the first half of the two-part series finale. When “An American Girl in Paris: Part Deux” aired, fans waited with baited breath to see if Carrie would not only finally end up with Mr. Big, but if we would ever discover what this cavalier’s real name was.
Well, Carrie did indeed choose Mr. Big. And in the last five seconds of the series, we finally learned his actual name. But not through Carrie writing it on her infamous laptop or screaming it in the throws of her infamous passions. Rather, we discovered that his true identity was “John”, when that name popped up on the tiny screen of her trendsetting, and Swarovski encrusted mobile phone.
